Thessaloniki : The ancient years
It was founded in 315 B.C. by Kassandros, the king of the ancient Greek state of Macedonian. The ancient Macedonians were Greeks like the Athenians, the Spartans, the Thracians, etc. This is evident from ancient sources, their Greek written and spoken language, their Greek names and their religion. Furthermore, there are archaeological findings presented in Thessaloniki's archaeological museum and the local living traditions which passed from father to son through generations. The historical sites of Eges (Vergina) and Pella (the home land of Alexander the Great) were older capitals of the ancient Greek Macedonians and one can visit them along with Thessaloniki's archaeological museum.
